Lob With Drills
Why You Should Practice Volleys and Lobs Together
Key Points
- If your opponent gets too close to the net mix up hitting the lob to keep them back
- Use a lob warm up drill with 2 players back aiming to hit the ball just inside the baseline
- A big part of being at the net is reading when your opponent is going to lob, so practice lobs and volleys together
- Learn to read when your opponent is dropping under the ball to hit a lob, or driving through for a passing shot
- Gamify the previous drills: Play normal points and if your opponent returns a ball and it lands closer to the service line than the baseline then you need to approach the net
- If a player wins a point with a lob that goes over the opponents head they receive 2 points
- Lobs should be taught the same time you are learning the volley
