Key Points

  • First Progression: Drop balls randomly in all directions, so the player is used to moving forward and back and doesn’t camp out on the baseline

  • Second progression: After letting the ball bounce, try and catch it as high as possible

  • These drills help develop your coordination in all directions, along with speed and toughness

  • First progression: Deep forehand and short backhand

  • Second progression: Deep backhand and short forehand

  • Make sure the player focuses on “single tasking” and the drill, rather than the technical parts of their game you are working on

  • Technical changes should happen naturally and is something you should pay attention to

  • Third progression: Stand at the net on 1 side and move the player in all different directions
