High Percentage Tennis

Consistency is Comprised of Hitting Shots That Work Well for You 80% of The Time

Key Points

  • Develop consistency which is comprised of hitting shots that work well for you at least 80% of the time and do it under pressure
  • Coaches should recognise their player's style ("personality") and develop a consistent game structure around that such as Pat Rafter's serve-volley
  • Hitting crosscourt is generally the higher percentage play as you’re hitting over the lowest part of the net into the bigger area of the court and you have more time to recover
  • Hitting down the line is lower percentage as you’re hitting over the highest part of the net to the shortest area of the court with less time to recover
  • As you get older and improve your ability to hit up the line and recover, then it’s ok to hit up the line
  • Early preparation is key when trying to reduce mistakes
