How Taylor Fritz Was Taught The Forehand

High and Heavy Balls above the Shoulders , Timing The Snap of the Hips, and Disguising the Inside-Out and Inside-In Forehands

Key Points

  • Turning your shoulders first will take the racket back for you
  • Draw the letter C with your racket
  • Once the shoulder turns, let go of the racket with the left hand
  • “Snap” the hips through and drive your weight into the shot
  • Visualize hitting through 3 balls to keep your racket on a straight line
  • Circle the ball and bring the right foot behind you
  • Drive your weight through the ball
  • Create space between you and the ball
  • Visualize the court turning on a turntable
  • Lay the wrist back and catch the ball a little late to create that great angle on the inside-out forehand
  • The inside-out and inside-in forehands have great disguise and make it very difficult for your opponent to read where you are going to hit it
  • Use the drop shot as a mix up when hitting inside out forehands
  • Most players struggle with heavy balls hit above their shoulders
  • Rip the ball high and heavy, and then try and step in and flatten it out
  • The combination of ripping with spin and hitting flat, will make you a complete player
  • Keep the elbow tucked in on the take-back
  • Try not to lift the hand up and take too big of a swing
  • Keeping the palm down will close the racket face too much and cause a hitch in your swing
  • Watch out for opening the hips too soon; try to time the “snap” of the hips as you hit the ball
