Platform Kick Serve

Relaxed Arm and Shoulder Like a Bull Whip, and Mixing up the Kick Serve to Keep Your Opponent Guessing

Key Points

  • Line your front foot at a 45 degree angle, with the back foot parallel to the line
  • Make contact a little lower so the wrist and forearm can “snap up” through the ball
  • Hit the ball between 6 and 7 o’clock, “catching” 20 to 25% of the ball
  • Aim as high as you can over the net
  • Pronate up and out as you hit the ball, like you’re “twisting a knob” with your hand
  • The arm and shoulder should be very loose and relaxed like a “bull whip” or the feeling of “throwing your racket at the ball”
  • The kick serve can be very easy to read, so mix up hitting different spots with the same toss to keep your opponent guessing
