High Ball v Low Ball - Hitting on the Rise!
When To Step in and Take the Ball Early, Along with Weight Transfer From Behind the Baseline
Key Points
- Try and catch as many balls as possible on the rise
- If movement is a weakness in your game, work on taking the ball on the rise
- When moving back behind the baseline for a high ball, transfer your weight forward when hitting the shot, as opposed to “falling off the ball” and hitting on the back foot
- When the ball is high, you should still try and drop the racket head under the ball and come from low to high
- When moving behind the baseline, aim the ball 6 feet over the net, “high and heavy” with lots of spin
- Hand feed 1 ball deep behind the baseline so the player has to move back, and 1 ball short so the player has to move in and take it on the rise (6 ball sets)
