Nick Saviano

Nick Saviano is widely regarded as one of the world's leading high-performance tennis coaches and coach educators. For more than five decades, he has dedicated his career to developing players, educating coaches and advancing the technical understanding of the game. As a player, Nick was one of America's top-ranked juniors before becoming a two-time All-American at Stanford University, where he helped the Cardinal win NCAA Team Championships. He then spent nine years competing on the ATP Tour, reaching the Top 50 in the world and winning four ATP Tour titles. Following his playing career, Nick joined the USTA in 1988 as its first National Coach. During his 14 years with USTA Player Development, he served as Director of Coaching for USTA Men's Tennis, Director of Technical Development and later founded and led the USTA's Department of High-Performance Coaching Education. The coaching curriculum he developed has influenced thousands of coaches throughout the United States and internationally. Throughout his career, Nick has coached or worked extensively with more than 50 players who have gone on to compete on the ATP and WTA Tours, including world No. 1 players Jim Courier and Jennifer Capriati (as juniors), Monica Seles, Sloane Stephens, Amanda Anisimova, Eugenie Bouchard, Coco Gauff, Monica Puig and many others. His players have won Grand Slam singles and doubles titles, reached world No. 1 rankings, captured major junior championships around the world and earned collegiate All-American honours. Nick is also the author of Maximum Tennis: 10 Keys to Unleashing Your On-Court Potential, one of the world's best-selling tennis instruction books, and has written more than 75 articles on tennis and player development. He is one of the sport's most sought-after speakers on high-performance coaching and coach education, presenting throughout the United States and internationally. Today, Nick continues to coach at the Nick Saviano High Performance Tennis Academy in South Florida. Through a partnership between CoachLife and the Nick Saviano High Performance Tennis Academy, Nick's coaching philosophy and methodology are now available to players and coaches worldwide through CoachLife. Nick's Coaching Philosophy Nick believes that great tennis is built on great fundamentals. Throughout his career, Nick has observed that many players—including professionals—have never fully mastered the movement patterns and technical details that underpin elite performance. Rather than teaching quick fixes, his philosophy is built around developing technically sound, repeatable fundamentals that create long-term success. Across his CoachLife series, Nick explores these principles in depth through lessons including: The High-Performance Ready Position Using the Net as a Gauge Why the Inside-Out Forehand Is Tennis's Most Important Groundstroke The Optimum Hitting Zone The Golden Move: Directional Sequential Coiling The 360° Split Step The Momentum Split Step The Transition Split Step The Complete Guide to Returning Serve First & Second Serve Return Strategy & Tactics Optimising Your Serve Stance Optimising Your Dominant Eye for Better Ball Tracking & Ball Striking Building a World-Class Forehand: Live Lesson with a 10-Year-Old Each lesson explains not only what to do, but why it works, giving players and coaches a deeper understanding of the principles behind high-performance tennis. This first CoachLife series focuses on the technical fundamentals that Nick believes every player—from beginners to touring professionals—should understand. These are the foundational principles that underpin elite movement, stroke production, balance, timing and long-term player development. Future filming sessions will build on these foundations, expanding into more advanced technical concepts, tactical patterns, match strategy, decision-making, player development and high-performance coaching. Together, CoachLife and the Nick Saviano High Performance Tennis Academy will continue developing one of the world's most comprehensive online tennis coaching libraries. Whether you're a beginner, competitive junior, college player, coach or professional, Nick's CoachLife library provides a structured pathway for developing technically sound, repeatable tennis that stands up under pressure.
