Learn how Nick Kyrgios developed his massive forehand. Todd Larkham shares elite grip, backswing, and contact tips to help players create and absorb pace.
Key Points
- A majority of pro players use semi-western grips, which allows you to hit heavy spin, hit flat and deal with low slicing balls
- The hallmark of a great forehand is the ability to take pace and create pace
- Don’t choke up on the grip - the butt of the racket should be in the fleshy part your hand, with your hand slightly off the grip
- Try and create a clean, efficient backswing without any hitches
- Start the unit turn with a semi circle loop, strong left arm and load of the legs
- Lead with the butt of the racket, trying to make contact in front of your body
- Create space between your ribs and arm to allow extension through the shot
- Try not to twist the racket when driving through the ball
