Slinky Drill for Mastering Third Shot Drops and Transition Play
Focus on Moving Through the Court, Hitting Drops, and Controlling the Kitchen Line.
Key Points
- This drill is used to work on your third shot drop through the court and transition play through the transition zone
- 1 player will be at the kitchen line working on reaching in and squeezing that kitchen, while the other player will be working on their third shot drops throughout the court including the transition zone
- After hitting each shot, take 2 steps back and continue to drop the ball into the kitchen
- Once you reach the baseline, take 2 steps forward until you reach the kitchen line
- Practice reset volleys if the ball comes a little deeper
- Ideally, in a match you would only hit 1 great drop and charge the net, but for the purpose of this drill try and hit 4 or 5 when moving forward or back
- Mix up between forehands, backhands, drives and drops, and have your opponent smash it at you occasionally
