Drill Progressions for 6–8 Year Old Tennis Players
Fun, fast-paced drills to build skills in 6–8 year olds. Once they master these and show true interest, it may be time to introduce private lessons.
Key Points
- Drill 1 - Run and hit on the forehand and backhand side, running around the cone and recovering
- Drill 2 - 2 at the baseline, 2 at the service line and 2 at the net, remembering to shuffle back to the middle after each shot
- Drill 3 - Hand feed 2 forehands or backhands next to the player and have them take 4 fast shuffle steps before each shot
- Keep it fun, fast paced and challenging so kids continue to enjoy the game
- Sly will use psychological “tricks” to help instil key teaching points with his students as they progress
- Once young players master these basic drills and show a real interest in improving, then you can progress to private lessons
