Perfecting Speed Ups: From 3.5 to 4.5+
Understand the Best Times to Speed up the Ball and How to Anticipate and Respond to Speed-ups in Your Matches.
Key Points
- Even at the higher level, you should never speedup more than a paddle’s length below the net
- You have to be selective on when to speed up
- At the 3.5 level, you should only speedup when the ball is higher than the net
- At 4.5+ level, you can use your wrist to enable speedups from multiple positions
- When defending a speedup, you can either block the ball back defensively or you can use the opponent’s pace to counterattack them
- When a ball is sped up, more than likely it will be returned in the same direction.
